For business purposes, a Schengen visa can be obtained for up to 90 days stay. After a stay of 90 days, the person concerned must then stay outside the Schengen area for at least 90 days before re-entry on a business visa basis.

With a business visa, the person concerned can come to the Netherlands for business discussions or to attend meetings, but for short-term work, permission must in principle first be requested from the UWV by applying for a so-called work permit.

Under certain circumstances, a multiple entry visa can be obtained from the Dutch embassy. This is a visa that is issued for a longer period (for example for a period of one year) in which the person concerned does not have to apply for a visa again at the embassy every time, but can travel back and forth unhindered during the validity of the multiple entry visa. Please note that even in the case of a multiple entry visa, the person concerned may not stay in the Schengen area for more than 90 days of the 180 days.

Orange carpet program

Foreign companies with a branch in the Netherlands, or Dutch companies with a branch abroad, or foreign companies with an exclusive partnership with a Dutch company, can obtain visas for employees under the ‘orange carpet program’ in a simplified manner.

Advantages of the orange carpet program are:

  • A decision on the visa application within 48 hours instead of 15 days
  • Fewer documents to submit
  • No separate application for each person individually
  • Multiple entry visa options
